Here are daily activities we will do for the month of April which celebrate spring, but mostly autism awareness month.
Thanks to Ms. Campbell and Ms. McCray/Holmes for helping with these ideas.

April is National Autism Awareness Month!
You are a piece of our puzzle
Color a autism puzzle piece to help decorate our window. Parents, you can color one too!

Thursday
Wear rainbow colors to support Autism Awareness month
Autism colors, primarily blue, gold, and rainbow, symbolize awareness, acceptance, and neurodiversity.

Friday
April Showers bring Jelly bean Flowers
Help us celebrate April showers by donating jellybeans AND/OR plastic eggs for our jellybean hunt on Friday, April 3rd.
Children can wear spring colors and bring a snack of their choice. See Ms. McCray for more details.

Wear BLUE
-Let's all wear the color blue to be unified and show our support for our friends and peers with autism

Blue: Symbolizes calm, acceptance, and understanding, often associated with autism awareness campaigns like "Light it Up Blue" by Autism Speaks.

GROW A GARDEN
Children will plant seeds of rainbow flowers in the playground in gate hung gardening boxes.

Wednesday
Calm-Down Bottle Craft
We need every parent to donate a water/soda bottle (4oz-24oz) for their child to make a calm down bottle craft.
Teachers will combine glue, warm water, and glitter in a plastic bottle. When shaken,
swirling glitter offers a mesmerizing focus point. This craft promotes self-regulation, slow breathing, and mindfulness.

WATER SENSORY DAY
Children will have water play tables to enjoy sensory activities.
*Please make sure your child has two sets of spare clothes in their cubbies in case they get extra wet.

PUZZLE DAY
Puzzles are the symbol of Autism. Dress up
with clothes with puzzle pieces on them OR
create your own by gluing a jigsaw puzzle pieces to a t-shirt.
The children will also be able to color and safety pin to their shirt if your not able to do any of the above.

CHARACTER PARADE
Children introduce their character and the book it comes from.

STORY TIME CIRCLE
Teachers read popular books to the children and create a snack that mimics the book.

NUMBERS AND RAINBOW PATTERNS
Children wear clothes with numbers, shapes, or patterns (stirpes, hearts, polka dots, etc.)

COMMUNITY HELPERS
We want to support everyone in our community including those with autism. Dress as a helper
(Doctor, fire fighter, teacher, construction worker, etc.)

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE/KINDNESS CHALLENGE
Discuss ways to be a good friend, such as being
patient, sharing interests, and including everyone in games.

SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY
-Today is all about being comfy wear your softest socks with shoes, cozy slippers, or textured/fuzzy shirt to feel your cozy best!

SENSORY EXPLORATION DAY
Children will make slime or playdough from ingredients that can be found around the home.
We will be happy to shared the recipe with our families.

PLASTELLINE FINGERPAINTING
Children will get to explore different
textures by now using the slime/playdough from yesterday and mixing and molding
it with their favorite color paint.

SUPERHERO KINDNESS
dress like a superhero today and practice do random acts of kindness and smile at everyone you see!

TASTE THE RAINBOW
Parents and staff its your turn; wear rainbow colors with the children!

Tuesday
BUBBLE PAINTING
Mix washable, non-toxic paint with bubble solution. Children blow bubbles toward large
sheets of paper clipped to a fence, creating soft, colorful splatters. This activity benefits
oral-motor control and provides an opportunity for visual delight and creative expression.

SHOW AND SHARE
Children are good for showing and telling, however we want them to be better by sharing.
This is a great time for parents to say, you can bring a picture of your favorite person, sea shell,
or personal item (other than a toy) to show and share with your friends. For our 1 and under, simply
share a family picture that we can post at their eye level during play time.
